Yesterday I picked up the magazine Psychology Today at my friend’s and immediately opened it up to the article, “What Happy People Do Differently”. It’s a wonder how we are all so curious about what this big secret is. There are books that claim to find the secret to happiness, documentaries that study the happiest people on earth, and movies that search for life’s meaning through fiction. Happiness is what everyone strives for, right? But as we all know, how one person defines happiness is not how everyone defines happiness.

I am indeed a ‘happy’ person (most of the time). I think that I’ve come to this state of contentment over time and through acceptance. I wasn’t always this glass-half-full kind of gal. When I lived in New York City, I lived for the nightlife and battled an immense sense of uncertainty over the direction of my life. I’ve been through different cities, friends, careers, and passions- all of which have led me to where I am now. I used to think that change and excitement made me ‘happy’, but I’ve come to the conclusion that happiness starts from within and then naturally infects every aspect of your life. I believe my happiness stems from my relationships, financial stability, healthy lifestyle, adorable funny boyfriend, and creative outlets (my blog being one).

Psychology Today asserts that happiness is synonymous with risk taking. I would like to think happiness is synonymous with self love. What do you think defines happiness? Can it even be defined?

Happiness Wednesday all!

  1. Interesting that happiness is compared to risk taking. I can't imagine any reward greater for that risk! I wish I took psych in college...I think it would have fascinated me!

    1. I wish I did too, Laura! It's crazy this article attributes happiness with risk taking, but it also states that happy people don't seek reward, just experience. Definitely thought provoking :)

  2. Amen about loving yourself. I'm most definitely not a risk taker!

  3. Very true. And health is number one! With that you can do everything. It has hard to maintain happiness with chronic health problems. Good health is key!
